Connected Kidz Program
Bringing movement-based intervention to children in Goulburn.
At Nurture Cottage, we are proud to work in partnership with the team at Connected Kidz to deliver their impactful movement-based program to children and families in our local community.
The Connected Kidz Program is NDIS-funded and designed to support children's development by integrating retained primitive reflexes and strengthening sensory-motor pathways. Developed by a team of experienced occupational therapists, the program lays the foundation for attention, regulation, learning, and emotional well-being.
Together, our teams collaborate to ensure each child receives a tailored experience. The Connected Kidz team assesses each child and develops an individualised plan, and our Nurture Cottage educators help deliver this plan through regular, play-based sessions in Goulburn.
This collaborative approach allows children to receive expert-designed support, delivered by trusted, familiar educators in a nurturing environment.
How We Work Together
What Are Primitive Reflexes?
Primitive reflexes are automatic movement patterns that babies are born with — like the way a newborn grasps your finger or turns their head to suck. These reflexes help infants survive and develop in the early months of life.
As children grow, these reflexes are ideally "integrated" — meaning the brain matures and takes over, allowing for more controlled and purposeful movement. But for some children, primitive reflexes remain active beyond infancy, which can interfere with things like balance, coordination, attention, learning, and emotional regulation.
The Connected Kidz Program is designed to gently support the integration of these reflexes through movement-based activities, helping children build stronger foundations for everyday functioning.
How Unintegrated Reflexes Can Show Up in Everyday Life
When primitive reflexes remain active, they can create hidden challenges for children — even if those challenges aren't always obvious to others.
For example:
A child who still has an active Moro reflex (the startle reflex) might become easily overwhelmed by sudden sounds, lights, or changes in routine. Their body is in a constant state of alert, making it hard to focus, stay calm, or feel safe.
Or, a child with an unintegrated ATNR reflex (a reflex that links head movement to arm and leg movement) might struggle with tasks like writing, sitting still, or following instructions — not because they aren’t trying, but because their body is working against them in ways they can’t explain.
These reflexes can affect:
Posture and balance
Hand-eye coordination
Sensory processing
Emotional regulation
Learning and attention
Movement-based intervention helps the brain and body "complete the loop" — giving children the chance to build new connections, feel more in control, and access learning and relationships with greater ease.
